mountian layout (more movies)
I am moving in March and going to start on the next large layout. It is going to be in three sections yard, city and mountain. I will be able to duck under and walk along each section. The train will climb from the yard up one side of the mountain and down the other side to get into the city. From the city it would turn around and climb back over the mountain to get back to the yard. Here is p...  [click to vew more]

room on the layout?
Compared to the number of engines that you have, do you have enough room on the layout for them all at one time?
Either sitting in the yard waiting, or on a siding, or in the roundhouse, diesel service areas, or wherever, what percentage of engines can you accomodate at 1 time on your layout.

OOPS!!!!!
Some of you may have had issues getting to the site in the last day.

The problem has to do with domain registration. Our original host when we brought up the site, failed to do the domain re-registration. So the registrar reset our domain registration. When this happens it takes time to propogate through internet, so slowly more and more of you were probably loosing the site.

I APOLOGISE for the hassel.

I just got through bypassing the folks that goofed it up, and went directly to the registrar, and re-registered for a full 5 years.

AGAIN I AM SORRY THIS HAPPENED.

It's that time again
SRO members - just like the tax man, I cometh to remind you that it's that time to reconsider your support to SRO.

Every year I ask you, on behalf of the membership of this fine site to consider re-newing, or becoming a "supporting member" of SRO by clicking on the About SRO tab and then clicking on the donation tab and making a donation.

It's easy - and hey, I know that money is tight - it's tight for all of us. But a movie and a small popcorn is about the same cost as supporting SRO for 365 days of fun and fellowship.... I think that's a good deal. I support SRO with my wallet, and I'm asking you to consider doing the same.

Nothing in this world is free it seems; and running SRO isn't either; just using it is - Dollars coming in or not - Steve keeps it running regardless. I hope that many of you out there will see fit to help him with the costs - 2008 will be a great year, SRO will make it better.

I personally appreciate your consideration of a donation - it will help !

New Feature: Polls
When we first went live with the site, I made a running attempt at putting in polls. It was the second most requested feature after the Avatars. Well the forum mod for polls was buggy and installation of the mod had some bad directions. So I stopped the attempt and did some other additions to the site.

And forgot to revisit the question of polls.

Roger brought the subject back up yesterday, so I made the second attempt. The instructions were still bad, and the bugs still there, but I want ahead and pushed through them and go it running.

Poles are for members to post, and are peppered through most of the site. You'll notice they are missing from some of the site related forums, buy and sell, and personals. Clubs, mfg, site forums have them, but only those people moderating those forums can post there. Specifically so they can get feed back.

What's ok to post a poll about. First and foremost it needs to be train or model train related. Second, don't post a poll as a veiled attempt to slam, or open a slam fest. Make them of some value, but becareful. Too many polls, or off topic polls will cause the polls to be ignored, and they won't get used.

I won't, and probably don't need to, go beyond that. Lets see how they go.

N'joy the feature.
